How do I measure my chest size?

Big Fish Clothing's shirts for big men and shirts for tall men are designed with comfort in mind, but it’s still important to get the sizing right. Use a tailor’s tape measure and wrap it under your armpits around the broadest part of your chest while standing naturally. Make sure it’s snug but not tight, and avoid it twisting or drooping. Round up to the nearest half-inch or centimetre.

Ok, so how do I find my collar size?

This one matters especially for formal shirts. Wrap the tape around the base of your neck, just below the Adam’s apple. You should be able to comfortably slide two fingers under the tape. A slightly loose fit is better than tight, especially once you add a tie into the mix.

How do I measure my waist size?

Even if you have a rough idea of your waist size, a quick check can save you hassle. Wrap the tape around your waist at belly button height and leave a finger’s width between the tape and your body for a comfortable fit. All our big men's jeans and plus size trousers are designed with room to move, but accurate measurements always help. We offer free returns, but fewer trips to the Post Office is always a win.

A quick tip: wearing larger clothes to hide areas you’re self-conscious about rarely works. Properly fitting clothes are nearly always more flattering. We’ve been fitting big and tall guys since 2004 so trust us on this one.

What about a belt?

A belt should pull your outfit together, not your trousers. If your jeans only stay up when you’ve got one on, they probably don’t fit right. Instead, think of a belt as a finishing touch. Choose one that matches your shoes, or keep both a black and a brown option in rotation. And yes, the French tuck still counts.

I know my height, but how do I measure my leg length?

While the height chart below is helpful, it’s best to measure your inside leg (inseam) directly — from the top of your thigh to your ankle. That’s the number to use for a natural, well-fitting trouser length.

Trends come and go, from cropped ankles to baggy hems, but we always recommend starting with a classic inseam and adjusting from there. You can always cuff your jeans or chinos for a styled finish.

The advice above works just as well for taller guys. Our extra tall jeans and tall men’s trousers are tailored to give you a longer rise, proper leg length and a better overall fit.

Who does 2XL clothing fit?

A 2XL is usually right for men with a 46–48 inch chest or a 44–46 inch waist. In real terms, that’s often guys who wear a large or XL on the high street but need a little more room across the shoulders or midsection. If you’re around 6ft with a broad build, 2XL could be the comfortable, everyday fit.

Who does 3XL clothing fit?

3XL generally suits men with a 50–52 inch chest or a 48–50 inch waist. It’s a popular size for men who find standard XL cuts too tight, especially around the arms and torso. If you’re a big guy who likes your clothes to drape naturally rather than cling, 3XL is usually a safe choice.

Who does 4XL clothing fit?

4XL works for men with a 54–56 inch chest or a 52–54 inch waist. Think larger frames or anyone who wants extra room through the chest and midsection without sacrificing length. Our 4XL shirts and jackets are cut with proportion in mind, so they won’t ride up or feel short.

Who does 5XL clothing fit?

5XL is designed for men with a 58–60 inch chest or a 56–58 inch waist. If you often find clothes too short in the body or too tight across the shoulders, 5XL is likely the right fit. Many of our 5XL customers are taller, broader men who appreciate the extra fabric where it matters most.

Who does 6XL clothing fit?

6XL fits men with a 62–64 inch chest or a 60–62 inch waist. It’s a solid choice for those who need a true big and tall cut with extra length and width. Our 6XL range is designed to give you freedom of movement without looking oversized or baggy.

Who does 7XL clothing fit?

7XL is cut for men with a 66–68 inch chest or a 64–66 inch waist. It’s one of our specialist sizes and ideal for the tallest, broadest body types. We’ve fine-tuned the proportions to make sure the fit still feels natural and wearable, not boxy.

Who does 8XL clothing fit?

8XL caters for men with a 70–72 inch chest or a 68–70 inch waist. This size is for those who struggle to find clothes that fit anywhere else, and it’s an area where Big Fish has built real expertise. Our 8XL range is tailored to ensure comfort, proper length, and a flattering finish.
